Welcome to the NGO network "biodiversity"

From Bonn to Nagoya - German NGOs act as driving force

Key decisions for biodiversity conservation will be made in October 2010. The Parties of The Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) will meet at the 10th Conference of the Parties (COP10) in Japan. Emphases of the negotiations are the following topics:

• Global Protected Area network
• Adequate financing of the Protected Area programme
• Access und Benefit Sharing

It can further be expected that the question about the general success of the convention will be a matter of major debate. The adoption of a new strategic plan and new biodiversity targets, which are also part of the agenda, are likely to be influenced by the course of the negotiations.
In the run-up to Nagoya, German NGOs are preparing for COP10.

Under the German CDB Presidency, the German League for Nature and Environment and the NGO Forum for the Environment and Development are continuing their joint efforts as a project group until the end of 2010. Due to their involvement prior the COP9, the working group has already a successful record in co-ordinating NGO's at the national and international level. In addition, the group has carried out effective awareness raising measures and could hereby enhance the Conventions popularity. Based on past achievements of the collaborating partners, a follow-up project will be continued until the COP10 in Nagoya.

In order to support the preparation of the 15th Conference of the Parties to the Convention of Climate Change and the 10th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity, Biodiv-network.de will keep you up to date with any and all information.
